Natural Plant-Based & Herbal Products
The increasingly intense push to reduce the use of antibiotics makes the development of natural solutions that can serve as alternatives even more critical. For over 10 years Garzanti Specialties has exclusively offered its customers products from Natural Remedies, whose know-how yields unique results.
Our Indian partner is a leader in the standardisation of “raw” botanical products, which it combines into carefully-balanced blends. These blends of “standardized botanical powders” bring together the psychotherapeutic properties known to ancient Ayurveda science, which have been studied and validated through a rigorous scientific approach to obtain proven and repeatable results in both human and animal health care.
Enzymes are an essential tool for improving food chain efficiency and are a fundamental requirement for optimizing formulations maximising the individual ingredients. Their use combined with the adoption of safe nutritional practices brings about the improvement of food efficiency and feed cost savings.
Ab Vista is a leading, next-generation company offering a range of enzyme products that are innovative, efficient and stable. They also have state-of-the-art technical support services for the global animal feed industry. Headquartered in the UK, the company employs almost 200 people and has operations all over the world. It is now one of the world’s leading enzyme manufacturers.
The latest generation 6-phytate specifically developed for use in broilers and pigs is characterised by a very high enzyme affinity, speed of action and intrinsic stability, i.e. without resorting to coating the enzyme. In addition to significantly increasing the digestibility of P-phytoin, it “frees” other essential nutrients (aa, microelements, etc.), giving the animal an important share of nutritional value otherwise lost due to the phytate. These characteristics allow considerable savings on the cost of feed but can also be exploited to strengthen animal performance by resorting to superdosing. The high inherent stability means that no form of physical protection is required, allowing the enzyme to activate as soon as it enters the digestive tract.
A highly concentrated phytase that allows complex premixes to be made and used at low dosages. The microgranular formulation allows small amounts to be evenly distributed in both the premix and the target feed.
ECONASE XT: β 1-4 endo-xylanase enzyme characterized by a very high intrinsic thermostability (even at pelleting temperatures of 95°C) which reduces intestinal viscosity and helps maximise NSP breakdown, mainly arabinoxylans, in xylo-oligosaccharides which release extra energy and positively influence the intestinal microflora.
- Reduces intestinal viscosity (thus improving litter quality and nutrient digestibility)
- Breaks down NSPs, mainly arabinoxylans into xylem oligosaccharides, which in addition to releasing extra energy positively affects intestinal microflora.
β -Glucanase which aids the digestive system of monogastrics by breaking down β glucans and other fibre fractions present in cereal-based feeds. It is characterised by excellent formulation flexibility, delivering improved performance and better intestinal function.
Double action combination of XYLANASE and XYLO-OLYGOSACCHARIDES, specifically designed to promote the development of the microbiome that degrades fibre in monogastrics with direct effects on increasing the digestibility of nutrients (greater food efficiency) and the fermentation of fibrous sources that would otherwise be un-degraded. All targeted and tested to deliver consistent animal performance and reduced production costs.
A natural source of betaine extracted from sugar beet molasses, used as a feed additive. Its osmotic properties mitigate variations in temperature and salt concentration. It is also used as a methyl donor to support metabolism. Also available in a GMO FREE version for organic usages.
To meet different needs, such as the use of enzyme pools, Garzanti Specialties also relies on another important european partner: Soufflet Biotechnologies, a company started for the processing and marketing of cereals, but now also active in Solid State Fermentation (SSF) of cereal grains. Since 2003, Soufflet has patented a standardized fermentation technique on malt by strains of NON-genetically modified microorganisms that release a naturally rich enzyme pool in the substrate, which can then be used for improving the digestibility of feed and fodder widely used by the livestock sector.
BOVIMALT PLUS: Consisting of wheat malt and fermented wheat bran – Solid State Fermentation (SSF) – naturally rich in an enzymatic pool (NSP enzymes, betaglucanase, cellulase, amylase and more) and essential growth nutrients (vitamins, amino acids & proteins) which can be used with ruminants (where the pool is titrated on the basis of β-glucanase) increasing the digestibility of fibre and stimulating the development of ruminal biomass leading to a significant improvement in production performance.
AVIMALT PLUS: Consisting of Wheat Malt and Fermented Wheat Bran – Solid State Fermentation (SSF) – naturally rich in an enzymatic pool (NSP enzymes, betaglucanase, cellulase, amylase and more) and essential growth nutrients (vitamins, amino acids & proteins) which can be used with monogastric animals (where the pool is titrated on the basis of xylanase) increasing the digestibility of NSP in the diet.
Yeast-fraction based products
Many studies have now shown that oral intake of yeast fractions can help improve the performance and health of both animals used for breeding as well as in pets. These products also act as a very useful tool in reducing the use of antibiotics. To make them available to customers, Garzanti Specialties collaborates with Ohly. a long-standing manufacturer of specialties derived from the processing of yeast. The company, born in Germany in the nineteenth century, has always focused on the quality and wholesomeness of its products and today is able to supply a wide range of standardised and safe products, including:
Yeast cell wall products
Ohly-Go®Wall. Yeast walls (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) obtained by
hydrolysis with the addition of exogenous enzymes, separated by
centrifugation from the soluble and dried yeast extract. The product
therefore consists of a mix of (1,3) (1,6) -β-D-Glucans (27 ± 4%) and
Mos (18 ± 4%). The two functional polysaccharides that make up the
product have beneficial effects on animal health, also improving
productivity and are particularly useful in periods of high stress.
Function: binds mycotoxins, supports the immune system and
activates macrophages. It also binds and limits the colonization of
Ohly-Go®Mos. Mannano-oligosaccharides (MoS) is made from
yeast cell walls (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) obtained by autolysis
and then separated from the soluble extract, giving an MoS content
of 31 ± 4% and (1.3) (1.6 ) -β-D-Glucans of 21 ± 4%.
Function: they bind to intestinal pathogens such as Salmonella, E.
coli and Clostridia spp, thus preventing their colonization of the
Ohly-Go®Glucan: β-Glucans semi-purified from cell walls of yeast
(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) autolysed by a treatment with sodium
hydroxide and repeated filtering to precisely purify the (1,3) (1,6) β-D-
Glucans (≥ 48%). There is also an advanced version Ohly- Go®Glucan Advanced with a level of (1,3) (1,6) β-D-Glucani ≥ 60%.
Function: modulates non-specific immune responses and general
health, activating macrophages to overcome bacterial infections and
increasing the antibody titres after vaccination. Perfect for use in
periods of high stress. The (1,3) (1,6) β-D-Glucans also have the
ability to bind some mycotoxins, such as zearalenone and ochratoxin.
Ohly-Go®Solumannan. Consisting of soluble mannoproteins purified from premium yeast cell walls (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) which makes all MOS chains bioavailable and consequently the product is as effective at dosages 10-times lower than conventional ones for MOS-based products. Mannoproteins are in fact highly glycosylated proteins with mannan-oligosaccharides, well known for their ability to bind intestinal pathogens such as Salmonella, E.Coli and Clostridia, in addition to binding to the intestinal receptors of these pathogens thus preventing colonization. Almost entirely free of β-Glucans.
Appetising Yeast Extracts.
Ohly-Go®Nucleo. An enzymatically, hydrolysed yeast extract (derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae). It is a complete source of Nucleotides (CMP, GMP, IMP and UMP). Their use improves the feed conversion ratios and performance of the animals. Nucleotides are in fact semi-essential nutrients whose availability can be a limiting factor for growth due to an inability to produce them through biosynthesis especially in certain situations: in the juvenile phases where cells are rapidly dividing; in specific cellular tissues such as cells of the innate immune system (an important aspect for shrimp) and in cells of the gastro-intestinal tract; in stressed or sick animals. By supplying nucleotides the energy requirement of the animal is reduced allowing it to better bear the stresses and be more resistant to attack by pathogens.
Ohly-Go®Ktd. A yeast extract derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae providing meaty and roasted notes. It is a rich source of nitrogenous compounds such as amino acids, small peptides and nucleosides. It has an intense flavour of roasted meat, produced from autolyzed yeast and glucose extract following the Maillard reaction. Function: increases the palatability of the feed and masks undesirable flavours.
Ohly-Go®Meaty. A yeast extract derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae providing meaty flavours. It’s a rich source of appetizing nitrogenous compounds such as Maillard reaction products, free amino acids and small peptides.

Over the next 30 years the global population will increase from the current 7 billion to around 9 billion people in 2050. The effects of this population increase will have a significant impact on food production for humans as well as feed for livestock. Specifically this increased population will increase the demand for food, which ultimately will increase the need for more land and water for the necessary crops.
A modernisation and reorganisation of current agricultural systems is a necessary focal point to avert future food and economic crises. This rethink should take into account new raw materials for feed and alternative protein sources capable of reducing both water and soil consumption, rendering the agricultural food system fully sustainable.
Hermetia Baruth is a spin-off ofKatz Biotech AG, which has been continually improving its processes for breeding and distributing beneficial insects for biological pest control since 1992. The group manages theInsect Technology Center ITC in Berlin. In 2006, Hermetia Baruth GmbH was the first facility to successfully establish significant and stable breeding of the Hermetia illucens fly (Black Soldier Fly) in Europe. They mastered the holometabolic life cycle of the Black soldier fly and developed a bioreactor for the mass production of larvae, which are distributed globally. They then developed a system for processing fresh larval mass into meal rich in oil and protein.
