Glycolic acid represents a versatile and effective solution for a wide range of industrial and domestic cleaning applications. It is 90% biodegradable in 7 days, it owns low volatility and it is non-flammable.
What is glycolic acid and how does it work?
Glycolic acid is the simplest of the alpha-hydroxy carboxylic acids with an acid and alcoholic function.
It is less corrosive than the more common acids such as hydrochloric and phosphoric and compared to the latter it is more efficient in removing iron oxide stains, as well as offering environmental benefits. It easily complexes with iron, calcium and magnesium deposits, providing easy removal of rust and hard water stains.
It does not generate irritating fumes and it is easily dilutable at any concentrations.
Chelates rust, scale and particulate found in wells, boilers and reduction equipment.
It therefore owns a strong descaling power! It has an impeccable synergistic action with other acids that amplify its effectiveness as a cleaning agent, especially together with to sulfamic and maleic acid.

The biocidal action of glycolic acid.
Glycolic acid has an anti-microbial (biocide) action against viruses, bacteria and fungi and it is included in Article 95 of the EU regulation number 528/212 (BPR).
It can therefore be used as an active ingredient in the formulation of disinfectants for hard and non-porous surfaces, for household, industrial, institutional or commercial premises.
